Since the death of his mother a few years back, Alec has become closely involved in the family business, working for his father Dylan. While he grows up into a teenager, he starts struggling more and more with true intimacy, and has difficulty communicating his feelings.
Things change when Alec and Dylan move from London to a small seaside town; Alec meets tomboy Nina, a strong-willed girl with iconoclastic feminist views. Nina invites Alec into a type of closeness and sensuality that is far from the world he was brought up in.
